French Comfort Food in Downtown Asheville
Bienvenue à Bouchon
Bouchon is the French word for “cork.” In a small farming village near Lyon, France — the hometown of our owner, Michel Baudouin — bouchon also refers to the friendly neighborhood bistro. The bouchons in Michel’s hometown were supplied by local farms; we are proud to continue that farm-to-table tradition here in Asheville. Michel’s memories of simple, delicious, and comforting French dishes shared at home or enjoyed at the local bistros inspired him to recreate that experience here in Asheville. Bon appetit, y’all!

Keeping it Local (et Français)
Much like a traditional French bistro, our menus reflect our area’s amazing bounty. Our restaurants source from several of Western North Carolina’s amazing producers including the WNC Farmer’s Market, Jasperwood Farms, Haw Creek Honey, City Bakery, Dynamite Roastng Co., Asheville Tea Co., Ultimate Ice Cream, and Sunburst Trout Farms.
Le Propriétaire
Michel Baudouin is the founder and owner of Downtown Asheville’s Bouchon and her sister restaurant in East Asheville, RendezVous. Farm-to-table has long been a way of life for the Baudouins. The farm in France where Michel grew up has been in his family for 200 years. Today, the Baudouins live on a few acres in nearby Leicester along with their cat, dog, two small goats, chickens, and a rescued Tennessee Walking Horse named Senator Dolittle.
Michel’s success in the restaurant business began over twenty years ago in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with honored restaurants “Michel,” “Le Chardonnay,” “Encore,” and “The Grape Escape.” His passion for cooking is second only to his love of family, friends, pétanque, and Indy Car Racing.
